About this place
Tucked into Ginza 8-chome, Showa Horumon Shokudo draws diners for evening grilled meats and hot pots, but its daytime tonkotsu ramen has built its own loyal following. The standout at lunch is the motsu nira ramen, topped with ingredients you would expect from an offal specialist. Tender beef or pork offal and aromatic garlic chives sit atop a rich pork-bone broth brewed to keep gamey notes in check, making for a hearty bowl that remains remarkably easy to finish.
Tabletop condiments such as spicy pickled mustard greens (karashi takana) and beni shoga red pickled ginger give you plenty of ways to adjust each bite. The sharply spiced takana is ideal for stirring in alongside an extra noodle refill (kaedama), and it pairs just as naturally heaped over plain steamed rice or spicy cod roe rice (mentai gohan). The midday lineup also includes green onion motsu ramen, classic Hakata ramen, and negi chashu ramen, giving diners flexibility depending on what they crave.
When the dinner hours begin, the tables fill with charcoal-grilled offal and soy-sauce-based motsu nabe. Thicker champon noodles can be dropped into the remaining hot pot broth at the end of the meal to soak up the concentrated flavors, and ramen is also available as an evening order. With both counter stools and table seating, the shop suits quick solo lunches just as well as lingering dinners around a sizzling grill and a cold beer.
